Pottermore Presents...

GUYS. I am so happy because of these little books. Like I stopped everything I was doing to read these. Let me explain. You all know of Pottermore right? The glorious hub for anything Harry Potter? Well, the beautiful people over there and of course the Queen herself have given us three new beautiful gifts. Three new little books about the wizarding world. I read all three in a matter of hours and I will now break them down to you from my least favourite to my most favourite, but let's be real, they are all my favourite.

UP FIRST: Pottermore Presents: Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics, and Pesky Poltergeists. In this eBook we get to learn about the intimate past lives of some interesting Ministry employees, the complete collection of Ministers for Magic, Azkaban Prison, some of the more quirky and curious Hogwarts professors, and our favourite trouble-making poltergeist. The most interesting part of this book for me was the background on Dolores Umbridge. We see her as this vile creature when she is introduced in Order of the Phoenix and guess what? She has always been that vile! How awesome! I won't spoil anything, but man oh man is her childhood quite interesting. She is a Slytherin and to be honest I am not surprised but that just puts another name down on the "People who tarnished Salazar's Name" list that has now grown to a short novel.  Also, we get to learn how Azkaban was created and I always had a hunch about it and I was actually right!

Alongside the Dementor Dwelling we get a timeline of every Minister for Magic in history and let me tell you, not all of them were...sane. Like, you thought Fudge was bad... As for the Hogwarts professors we get a look into the lives of Horace Slughorn and Quirinus Quirrell. Slughorn's past was enlightening and it is mentioned in the books at times, at least parts of it, but Quirrell's was AMAZING. Most people think Squirrely Quirrell was just a host to an evil parasite, which he was, but HE HAD REASONS. I loved Quirrell's character and I am glad he was given a slight chapter. At last we get a little bit of background on Peeves who is so underrated in the HP world in my opinion. A lot of people don't know who he is because he's not in the movies, BUT HE IS GREAT. If you loved Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix then you will find a bunch of fun extra bits in this one!

NEXT: Pottermore Presents: Hogwarts - An Incomplete & Unreliable Guide. In this one it is basically Hogwarts: A History. You know the one. The book that Hermione reads, but Harry and Ron never do. Yet, think about it as if House Elves wrote it and missed a few things. I LOVED THIS. J.K. Rowling has released many different facts about the Potter World and even now she is telling us MORE. For example, did any of you know anything about the Hufflepuff Common Room? I knew it was in the basement and that's it really. I figured it was yellow...In the books Harry visits the Slytherin Common Room and the Ravenclaw Common Room, but never the Hufflepuff Common Room...a shame really. We get to learn about how to access the room and all it's charm.

As readers we get to read about why and how the famous Scarlet Steam Engine: The Hogwarts Express was introduced, The Sorting Hat's dilemmas, and even the specifics of the time turners. Ever wonder how the Marauder's Map came about? Well ya gets to know now! Ghosts play a big role as well as we get a lovely ballad from our Nearly Headless Nick and a backstory of Sir Cadogan himself. Then of course Hogwarts wouldn't be Hogwarts without delving into the secrets of the castle such as the Mirror of Erised, Godric's trusty sword. and even more of The Chamber of Secrets. Any true Potter fanatic would absolutely love this little gem of a book! I know that if I was going to school at Hogwarts, I would want to read this as soon as possible!

FINALLY: Pottermore Presents: Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship, and Dangerous Hobbies. THIS IS MY FAVOURITE OF THE THREE! Can you guess why? I'll give you a hint, two words, REMUS LUPIN. That's right people! Everyone's fave werewoof is back with a backstory! Ever wonder why Greyback bit Lupin? You gon' find out! I love Lupin and I was so excited to read about his childhood and his Hogwarts years...man it was great! We also get a look into the werewolves themselves! It's just AWESOME.

When you have werewolves, you have Animagi and one of the most notable ones would of course be Miss Minerva McGonagall. You also get a full backstory on Hogwarts favourite Transfiguration Teacher! Follow Minerva through childhood all the way up to when she decided to become her feline self! Her story surprised me a bit, but also made me respect her that much more! We also get a look into the life of Sybill Trelawney. I've always had a soft spot for the Divination teacher. After she made her accurate prediction in Prisoner of Azkaban I developed respect for her and somewhat pity for the woman. Especially in Order of the Phoenix when it is revealed that she delivered the Prophecy of Voldemort and Harry and in turn ruined their lives! Ha, just kidding.

Sort of.

Also, very random, but there is a chapter about Silvanus Kettleburn. Remember him? He was mentioned in Prisoner of Azkaban. He was Hagrid's predecessor for the post of Care of Magical Creatures Teacher. He's a pureblood hufflepuff magizoologist and played a part in attacking the Death Eaters with Flobberworms because why the hell not?

I think these ebooks are just what every Harry Potter fan needs in their libraries. Right now they are only ebooks, but may become hard copies like the Hogwarts Library books, but who knows. If you want EVEN MORE intel on the world that is Harry Potter then please go and buy these. They are 2.99$ on Nook and are so worth it! Go to Barnes and Noble to check em out! I'm off to read more about Harry Potter...do they have support groups for this??

Happy Reading!

- Haley
