“For last year's words belong to last year's language. And next year's words await another voice.” ― T.S. Eliot, Four Quartets

Happy New Year!

I was going to spend this post talking about New Year's Resolutions, but then I realized, I don't make any and to be honest, does anybody? I mean, it's such a mundane thing and a bit ridiculous in my opinion. If you want to start eating healthy, don't wait till the first of January, just do it now. The only resolution I make every year, is to move on and not dwell on the past. Do you think that ever works? You're sweet if you do, because it never works. I am a dweller. All I do is dwell on the past and I sometimes wonder: Is that a bad thing? I think it can be sometimes, but then again you know what they say, "Learn from your past." Who is "they"? Ever wonder about that? I do. I'm going off topic again...as usual. I should stop doing that.

Currently, I am sitting at my desk, trying desperately not to look at my phone because the East Coast premiere of Shadowhunters Season 2 is on and I will NOT BE SPOILED! I have been waiting months for this and if anything is spoiled, I will not forgive myself. It's funny, I've read the books, so not much could be spoiled, but still... The show is pretty different from the books and they have been going different directions with it, so it's all very exciting.

On another note, I keep saying that this year is the year I am going to get something published, but I don't have anything written...yet. It's a huge process, writing a novel and I never realized that when I started to really plan mine out. I have so many ideas and I can't choose one. It's like all of my characters are having a midlife crisis and can't make up their minds of what they want to do. I have at least three different plot lines written out right now and you would think that would be a good thing, right? I mean, that's three of the books in the series. Except, it's horrible. The plots are so diverse that people would think I was having a breakdown or something. It's all very complicated.

When it comes to reading. I have set my goal at 50 books. I set a goal of 30 for last year and surpassed it by 12, so maybe I will get to 50 by December...I have a lot of books still unread. That's another thing! Why do I keep buying new books when I have about 100 that I still haven't read? I have a 13 book series just sitting on my shelf and do you think I've read that? NOPE. It's the "Sookie Stackhouse" novels by the way. I think it's because I get absorbed into these new series like ACOMAF and every Rick Riordan book ever and as soon as a new novel comes out, I just need to buy it. However, I only need one edition...here in lies the second problem. I have two different editions of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" and three of "Chamber of Secrets" I also have a hardback set of the "Sookie Stackhouse" series and a paperback set...WHY? Because I am a book hoarder...whoops. A lot of my duplicates are because I go to this free book place and see that someone has essentially thrown out a perfectly good version of a book and it's like those ASPCA commercials and the books are the dogs and I need to adopt them. Wow, I really do have a problem...meh.

Speaking of animals, my cat turns 2 this March and it feels like just yesterday I got her as a graduation present. She almost three times the size and still acts like the kitten she once was. As Gracie is a healthy and very active cat, our new kitten Nyx is having surgery soon because she has an infection in her gums...I hate that. They have to take out her back molars and I guess it's better than the alternative, but it's so unfortunate. She's not even a year old yet...

On a happier note, Ed Sheeran is releasing new music on Friday! Okay, note to self, work on transitions. But seriously, new music on Friday. Now if only Lorde could do the same! I need new Lorde songs! I can't keep listening to her only album over and over again no matter how good it is.

This isn't really a Mindful Monday, is it? I think it's more of a "Mindless Monday" as it really doesn't make any sense. You know what else doesn't make sense. The fact that I woke up at 1:30pm today. I haven't done that in a while. I had a migraine and I was up late reading "City of Glass". I only read three chapters, but I got distracted on tumblr...as usual. Oh and I got sucked into watching Graham Norton interviews for the millionth time on YouTube. Let me just say this, British Talk Shows are way better than American. I think they are too censored here and a bit too scripted. Want to watch something hilarious? Search Graham Norton interviews with Michael Fassbender and James Mcavoy or Jack Whitehall, you won't be disappointed.

I think I should rename this series to "Tangent Time" because that is all I seem to do these days. Not that it's a bad thing, right? I feel that these posts are more for me to look back on and cringe rather than for you...am I wrong? Probably. I think I should end it here before I start talking about NASA or something, trust me it would have happened.

Happy New Year!

Stay Mindful or in my case, Mindless.

- Haley
